My Brother-in-Law Kept Freeloading, So I Sold My Restaurant to a Gangster Overnight! Chapter 1

My brother-in-law came to my restaurant 18 times in one month. Never paid once.

His total bill? Over $100,000.

When I finally asked him to settle up, he slapped me three times in front of everyone.

"I'm bringing you BUSINESS. You should be grateful, not asking ME for money!"

My husband stood there and looked the other way.

I didn't argue. Just left.

Two days later, my brother-in-law booked out my entire place for his birthday.

He ordered. "Top shelf everything. Every table. Best wines, best dishes!"

I smiled. "You got it."

What he didn't know?

The restaurant wasn't mine anymore.

I'd signed it over to the local mob boss that very morning.

...

When Dex's three slaps landed on my face, the whole restaurant went dead quiet.

Everyone stared.

Everyone except my husband Crew. He turned his head like he suddenly needed to check the ceiling.

I looked at Dex's twisted face. Then at Crew pretending to be deaf.

Didn't cry. Didn't yell. Just walked out.

Behind me, Dex was still running his mouth:

"Pathetic bitch. Asking family for money? Try that again and I'll beat your ass."

Kept walking.

Outside, cold air hit my face. Made my cheek throb harder.

But inside? Dead calm.

I pulled out my phone.

"Yeah. I wanna sell my restaurant."

"Price doesn't matter. Just got one condition."

Hung up. Didn't go back inside. Went straight home.

Got to the door. Heard my mother-in-law's voice:

"Crew, you gotta control that wife of yours."

"She married into THIS family and has the nerve to ask Dex to pay? In PUBLIC?"

"People are gonna think we're broke."

Dex jumped in: "Exactly. Women like her need to be put in their place. You saw how quiet she got after I smacked her."

Crew sighed. "Well... it is her money that opened that place. Can't really—"

His mom cut him off.

"Her money? She's part of this family now. Her money's YOUR money. What's wrong with Dex using it?"

"Plus, Dex was doing her a FAVOR bringing his friends. Without him, who'd eat at that dump?"

"You need to tell her—if she wants to stay in this house, she better learn her place and stop embarrassing us!"

Crew went quiet for a second. "...Fine."

I pushed the door open.

All three heads whipped toward me. Faces sour.

Ignored them. Walked straight to the bedroom. Started packing.

Crew followed me in. Shut the door. "What are you doing?"

I folded a jacket into my suitcase. "Packing. Moving out."

His face went dark. "Seriously? How long you gonna keep this up?"

"Sure, Dex shouldn't have hit you, but you didn't have to call him out like that in front of everyone."

"He's my BROTHER. What was I supposed to do, fight him?"

"Can't you just be reasonable for once and stop being so damn petty?"

I zipped up my suitcase. Looked at him.

"Don't worry. I won't be petty anymore."

Walked out. Didn't look back.

Crew started to follow but his mom grabbed his arm.

"Let her go. If she's got the guts to leave, let's see how far she gets without us."

Dex raised his voice so I'd hear:

"Bro, she's just trying to mess with your head! Give her a few days. She'll come crawling back."

Their voices faded as the elevator doors closed.

I checked into a hotel down the street from the restaurant.

My phone buzzed while I was unpacking.

A message.

I read it. Let out a slow smile.

Chapter 2

Next two days, I ran the restaurant like nothing happened.

Made some calls. Signed some papers.

Dex didn't show. Guess he wanted to teach me a lesson by staying away.

Crew didn't come either. But he'd text:

"Enough. Stop being dramatic."

"My mom's right. You're spoiled."

"Fine. Stay mad forever. Don't come back."

I didn't reply. Just kept working.

Third day, right after I signed the final contract, Dex showed up.

Fresh outfit. Hair slicked. Walked in like he owned the world.

His mom and Crew followed. Didn't even glance at me.

Behind them?

Maybe fifty people. Family. Friends. Dex's crew.

They piled in. Found seats like they'd rented the place.

Dex swaggered up to the counter. Barked at me:

"It's my birthday. I'm booking this whole place!"

"I want the most expensive shit on every table. Lobster tails, Alaskan king crab, wagyu steaks, oysters, caviar—everything. And champagne. The good stuff. Dom Pérignon. Every. Single. Table."

I looked at him. "You sure? Every table? Once it's ordered, no refunds."

He slammed his hand on the counter. "Did I STUTTER?"

"Just DO IT. Or you want another beating?"

His buddies hyped him up:

"Damn, Dex! Even your birthday goes HARD!"

Some relatives looked nervous. "Dex, isn't this... expensive?"

Dex waved them off. "It's nothing. Eat whatever you want. Today's on me."

Then he turned back to me. Eyes cold.

"What are you waiting for? Move before I lose my temper."

I glanced at the signed contract on my desk. Smiled.

"You got it."

Chapter 3

I walked to the front and hung a sign: "Private Event – Closed."

Then headed to the kitchen. Told the head chef:

"Dex is booking the whole place. Every table gets exactly what he ordered—lobster tails, king crab, wagyu steaks, oysters, caviar, the works."

"And champagne. Dom Pérignon only. Every single table. Don't hold back."

Chef blinked. "Boss... that's gonna cost a fortune. Can Dex actually pay?"

I smiled. "He asked for it. Just do it."

He hesitated and turned. Started prepping.

Kitchen came alive. Woks clanging. Knives chopping. Smell of expensive food everywhere.

Out front, Dex and his crew were sprawled out in their seats, feet up on chairs, talking loud and obnoxious:

"Yo, hurry up! We're starving!"

Dishes started coming out.

Lobster tails, king crab, wagyu steaks, oysters, caviar—every plate looked like a magazine spread.

Dom Pérignon? Bottles lined up on every single table.

Dex's friends lost it:

"Holy shit. Dex, you're a LEGEND."

"Gotta post this. Most people will NEVER eat like this."

"Dex is my god now."

Even the relatives:

"I've only seen food like this on TV..."

"Dex is really something. So young and already this generous."

Dex soaked it in. Stood with a glass:

"Everyone, eat and drink as much as you want. It's ALL on me!"

Room erupted.

"Toast the birthday boy! May he get richer every year!"

Dex puffed his chest. "And anytime you guys wanna eat out, just come here. Say my name. I'll cover it. You won't pay a dime!"

Eyes lit up.

"Dex is the MAN!"

"We're riding with you, bro!"

Dex walked to the counter. Leaned in. Whispered to me with a smirk:

"What's wrong, Winnie? You love money, right? You're SO stingy."

"Today I'm gonna spend every cent you got. Let's see how you like THAT."
