Betrayed by My Bestie, Faking Love With Her Alpha – Moon Goddess Blessed Our Fate Chapter 1

Isla

Unknown Number: Your Alpha is having an affair with your best friend. Tomorrow, 8 AM. Moonstone Café. Come alone.

The text came at midnight.

I stared at the screen, my thumb frozen over the keyboard.

My Alpha. Kael.

My best friend. Lyra.

No fucking way.

Kael was asleep next to me, one arm around my waist like always, warm and solid and mine. We were true mates. Everyone in Silvercrest Pack knew it. Our bond was real.

This had to be a joke.

I typed back fast: Who is this?

Three dots appeared right away.

Unknown Number: Someone who knows the truth. 8 AM. Don't be late.

Then nothing.

I waited for more but nothing came.

It's not real. I told myself that over and over until I finally fell asleep.

Kael kissed me goodbye at the door the next morning.

"Late meeting tonight, baby. Council stuff."

"Again?"

"I know." He pressed his forehead against mine. "Few more weeks. Then this merger's done and I'm all yours."

"Okay."

"Love you, Isla."

"Love you too."

He left and I stood there watching his car disappear, my stomach tight.

Moonstone Café was almost empty when I arrived at eight.

I spotted him immediately.

Theron Blackwood. Alpha of Nightshade Pack. Lyra's mate.

Shit.

He looked exhausted with dark circles under his eyes and coffee already in front of him. When he saw me, something crossed his face. Pity.

I hated it.

I sat down across from him. "You sent that text."

"Yes."

"This is crazy. Whatever you think you know—"

"Your Alpha is fucking my mate."

The words hit like a fist.

I laughed. Couldn't help it. "That's impossible."

"Is it?"

"Kael and I are true mates. We have a bond. He can't—"

"When's the last time you felt it?"

I stopped.

Theron leaned forward. "The bond. When did you last actually feel him through it?"

I opened my mouth but no words came out.

Three months? Four?

I'd thought it was normal. Mates bonded for years didn't need constant contact through the link. We trusted each other.

"That doesn't prove anything," I said.

"Six months ago. Did anything change between you two?"

"No."

"You sure?"

I wanted to say yes but the memories hit anyway.

Six months ago Lyra started visiting all the time, three or four times a week, always when Kael was home. I'd been happy about it. Thought we were getting closer as friends.

And Kael was still perfect with flowers every morning and sweet texts all day and kissing me like I mattered every time he walked in.

But he hadn't touched me in three months.

Every time I tried he said he was tired or stressed. Soon baby. After the merger.

I'd believed him.

Stop it.

"Even if something changed that doesn't mean—"

Theron pulled out his phone and slid it across the table.

A photo. Eclipse Lounge. Private booth. Last week.

Lyra and Kael together with her hand on his chest and his arm around her waist, heads close and laughing.

My stomach dropped.

"No." I pushed the phone away. "Kael was out of town last week. Treaty meetings. He called me every night—"

"I know."

Something in how he said it made my blood cold.

"He's careful," Theron said flatly. "Flowers every morning. Texts all day. Calls every night when he's traveling. He plans everything perfectly."

I felt sick.

"You can see for yourself if you want."

"What?"

"Kael told you he's traveling this weekend right? Friday to Monday for the pack summit?"

Everything stopped.

He had told me exactly that yesterday morning. Four days at the summit. He'd apologized so much and promised to make it up to me.

"How do you know that?"

"Because Lyra told me she's visiting her mother for four days on the same dates." Theron's face was hard. "But they're not going anywhere. Kael booked the north wing at Timber Ridge Resort under a fake name. Four days. Just them."

The room tilted.

"I already checked with the resort," Theron continued. "Friday evening check in. I can take you there and you'll see with your own eyes."

"Why are you telling me this?"

For the first time real emotion showed on his face. "Because three months ago when I found out nobody believed me. And I'm done being the only one who knows the truth."

I stared at him.

"Come Friday," he said quietly. "If I'm wrong you'll know. If I'm right..."

He didn't finish.

I drove home in a daze.

When Kael came back that night he was late again.

"Meeting ran long baby." He hugged me from behind and kissed my neck.

He smelled like Lyra's perfume. Faint but definitely there.

My wolf growled low in my chest.

"How was it?" I kept my voice normal.

"Boring." He turned me around and cupped my face. "But I'm home now."

He kissed me deep and I kissed back, searching for something in his expression or his touch. A sign. A lie. Anything.

I found nothing except her scent still on his skin.

That night I pressed against him in bed and ran my fingers down his chest.

He caught my hand gently.

"Baby I'm exhausted. After the summit I promise. Every night will be yours."

"Okay."

"Love you Isla."

"I know."

He fell asleep in minutes.

I lay there in the dark staring at nothing while my wolf stayed silent in a way that felt like confirmation.

Maybe he's not lying. Maybe Theron's wrong.

But deep down I already knew the truth.

My wolf had known for months.

And Friday I was going to see it myself.

Chapter 2

Isla

Friday evening. Theron's SUV pulled up outside right on time.

I got in without speaking. Dark clouds had been gathering all afternoon and now the sky looked ready to break open.

The drive to Timber Ridge Resort took twenty minutes. All glass and stone and expensive lighting. The kind of place where Alphas held private meetings away from pack eyes.

Theron had already paid off the staff. Two employees met us at the service entrance and led us through narrow back corridors to a storage room on the second floor with a window facing the north garden.

Rain started falling. Light at first.

Then I saw them.

Kael stood by the fountain wearing dark jeans and a casual gray shirt I'd never seen. No suit. Nothing that looked like pack business.

Lyra was beside him in a sundress, wine glass in hand. Both of them looking at his phone and laughing.

They looked too comfortable together. Too natural.

My hands shook when I pulled out my phone and called Kael.

Across the garden his phone lit up. He checked it, said something to Lyra that made her smile, then answered.

"Hey beautiful. Perfect timing. Just finished for the day. How are you?"

I kept my voice steady. "Where are you right now?"

"Still at the summit. Long meetings all day." The lie rolled out smooth. "Heading back to my room now. What did you do today? Did you eat?"

"Yeah. I ate."

"Good. Get some rest baby. I'll call you in an hour okay? Love you so much."

"Love you too."

The line went dead.

Through the window Kael pocketed his phone, turned to Lyra, and kissed her.

Deep and slow and real.

The rain picked up fast.

Lyra pulled away laughing and walked toward the poolside loungers. Kael followed, catching her waist from behind when she reached the edge.

His hands slid up her sides. She leaned back against him. They swayed together like they were dancing.

Then his fingers found her zipper.

The rain turned heavy, hammering against the window.

I watched Kael lay Lyra down on the lounger. Watched him settle over her while rain poured down and soaked through their clothes.

Every touch looked practiced. Familiar. Like they'd done this hundreds of times before.

Six months, Theron had said.

Six months of Kael coming home late and kissing me goodnight. Six months of "I'm too tired baby" and sweet promises while he saved everything for her.

Six months of me believing every word.

Something shattered inside me.

"We should go," Theron said quietly. "Before they come back inside."

I couldn't move. Couldn't look away. Couldn't do anything except stand there watching my world fall apart.

"Isla. Now."

His hand on my shoulder snapped me out of it. I followed him back through the service corridors, out into the parking lot where rain was coming down in sheets.

It soaked through my jacket immediately but I barely noticed.

The drive back was silent except for the windshield wipers.

Theron spoke halfway home. "It's not your fault."

I stared at the wet road. "Then why?"

"They're selfish. That's all. Nothing deeper than that."

"He's my mate. We have a bond."

"A real mate wouldn't do this." Theron's voice was hard. "Whatever you had, he destroyed it the moment he touched her."

I didn't respond because I didn't know what to say.

Two years of my life. Two years of believing I was loved and safe and chosen.

All lies.

What do I do now?

Chapter 3

Isla

Theron didn't take me home.

He drove to a hotel near the pack border. Neutral ground where wolves could stay without questions.

The beta clerk at the front desk took one look at us and kept quiet. Theron paid cash.

My wolf was completely silent. That scared me more than anything.

He threw me his jacket. "Shower. I'll get supplies."

Gone before I could answer.

Hot water hit my skin and I started crying again.

Why did Kael do this? Wasn't our bond enough?

I couldn't stop seeing it. Lyra against the fountain. Kael kissing her neck. Their bodies moving together while our mate bond screamed.

Two years. I thought we were real.

My wolf whimpered inside, confused and hurt.

Theron came back with bags from a convenience store. Toothbrush. Towel. Men's tracksuit.

"Only thing they had."

The tracksuit was massive on me but I didn't care.

He boiled water for instant ramen. "Your wolf needs food."

I took the bowl and realized something. His mate cheated too but here he was helping me.

Why?

"Theron. Does your wolf still feel bonded to Lyra?"

Silence. Then: "No. It's dead."

"Mine too. Like Kael just vanished from inside me."

His jaw clenched. "Because they chose to break it."

While he showered I checked my phone.

9:47 PM: Baby are you asleep? Meetings ran late. Talk tomorrow.

7:15 AM: Good morning beautiful. Missing you.

8:30 AM: Heading into negotiations. Love you.

All through our bond. All lies.

I laughed. Quiet and a little crazy.

He blocked me out so he could fuck her. Used our bond to lie to me.

The bathroom door opened.

Theron walked out. Wet hair. Just a towel.

Holy shit.

This alpha was built like he spent every day on border patrol. Broad shoulders. Hard muscle. The kind of body that protected packs.

And Lyra threw this away?

He grabbed clothes fast. "Sorry."

"We both have broken bonds anyway." I looked away but my wolf stirred, noticing a strong alpha for the first time in hours.

Once dressed he sat down. His scent actually calmed me. "What now?"

"I don't know. Confront him at pack meeting? What's the rule when your mate fucks your best friend?"

"There isn't one."

"We should've felt them together through the bond."

"They blocked us out on purpose." His voice went hard. "Takes both of them working together. They locked us out so we wouldn't know."

That hurt worse than seeing it.

He deliberately cut me out of our bond so he could be with her.

"Maybe we should give them something to feel," I said. My wolf suddenly perked up.

"What?"

I looked at Theron. "They broke the bond. Blocked us out. So fuck mate bonds. Fuck the rules."

His eyes darkened. "You mean it."

"Yeah." My wolf was actually growling approval now. "Let them feel what we felt. Through whatever broken bond they've got left."

Silence.

His alpha eyes locked on mine. Something dangerous flickering there.

"They'd feel it. Even damaged bonds carry that."

"Good."

Neither of us moved.

But everything had changed.
