Ex Stole My Son's Heart for Her Lover's Kid—I Hold the Scalpel Now. Denied Chapter 1

Ten years ago, my ex ripped out our son's heart—gave it to his childhood sweetheart's dying kid.

I got to the hospital. My boy? Already cold in the morgue.

My ex? Crying happy tears outside another room, watching that brat's heartbeat come back.

Funeral day. I signed the divorce, changed my name, disappeared.

Ten years later—I'm the surgeon billionaires beg to save their lives.

Today, an emergency case lands on my desk.

The patient? That same kid. The one living off my son's stolen heart.

Rejection's killing him. I'm his only shot.

I grab my pen. One thick red line.

"You can die."

---

"Dr. Harper, we're talking about the Winters family."

Lisa's voice cracks, staring at that red line like I just signed her death warrant.

"Xavier Winters said money's no object. Whatever you want."

Her knuckles go bone white gripping my desk.

"He'll bankroll the whole department's research for a year. Just take the case. Please."

I don't look up. Keep staring at the name under that slash.

Dylan Pierce.

Ten years.

That name's been burned into my skull since the night they gutted my son.

The morgue flashes back. Liam on that metal slab, chest caved in. One brutal stitched line where his heart used to be.

I got there too late. Found him cold.

Meanwhile Xavier was outside another room, crying happy tears, watching Dylan's monitor beep back to life with my boy's stolen heart.

"I said reject it."

Slam the file. Feed it to the shredder.

Lisa's eyes go huge.

"That's a life! Your artificial heart's his only shot in the whole country!"

"You didn't even... God... you didn't even look at his chart!"

I look up.

She backs up fast.

"Out."

The desk phone screams. Red VIP line.

I pick up.

"Xavier Winters."

His voice drips ice and arrogance.

"Dr. Harper. Yeah. You got the file. Listen up. Two things."

"One. Ten million's already in your account."

"Two. I'm twenty minutes out. Get your people ready because we're doing this surgery."

I grip the receiver till my knuckles go white.

"Mr. Winters."

Dead calm.

"Your money doesn't work here."

Silence stretches.

Then he explodes.

"Are you... are you out of your fucking mind?"

"Did you just..."

"You know who I am? I'm Xavier Winters! I could buy this whole goddamn hospital!"

"Dylan is fifteen. You get that? A kid!"

"So what, you're just gonna let him die? That's what you do now? Let kids die?"

My reflection stares back from the window. That scar slicing through my eye down to my cheekbone. Got it ten years ago when I found out the truth, when I smashed my head into concrete until I bled out.

I spent a decade clawing my way to the top. Changed my name. Disappeared.

Became the surgeon billionaires beg for.

Invented the only artificial heart that can save Dylan Pierce.

And now Xavier's on my phone, demanding I save the boy who's been living off my son's heart for ten years.

"Keep running your mouth, Mr. Winters."

My voice cuts like glass.

"Every second you waste, that precious kid gets closer to dead."

Click.

Rip the cord out of the wall.

Lisa's frozen by the door.

"You just... Jesus. You just declared war on the Winters family."

"Do your job."

I sit back down. Flip open another patient's chart.

Wind hammers the window.

Just like that storm ten years ago.

When Liam went cold in a basement morgue while Xavier and his precious Vanessa stood outside the ICU, hands clasped, tears streaming, celebrating the boy who stole everything from me.

Chapter 2

Ten minutes later, Dean Howard crashes through my door, sweating and waving a fax around.

"What the hell are you doing?"

He slams it on my desk.

"Winters cleared a helicopter. Landing on our roof right now."

I keep writing without looking up.

"My schedule's full till 2027. He waits."

Howard starts pacing, totally frantic.

"Full? Are you serious right now?"

"They're giving us that downtown plot. Free. The whole medical center."

"The board's going insane!"

He leans in closer.

"Look, maybe you don't care about money. Fine. But your lab? Your research? That needs funding."

I stop writing and look at him.

Ten years ago, I couldn't pay Liam's ICU bills. Begged everyone I knew.

Xavier just watched.

"It's just a cold," he'd said. "Relax."

Then he wired a million for Vanessa's kid.

When Liam needed those experimental drugs, I got on my knees and begged Xavier to mortgage the house.

He slapped me and called me pathetic.

Then he flew to Paris with Vanessa the next day.

Came back with donor papers. My signature forged.

"Dr. Harper, it's a sick child."

Howard's voice cracks.

"Where's your heart?"

"Lost it."

I lean back.

"Ten years ago."

Howard freezes.

Chaos erupts outside with heavy boots and nurses gasping.

Lisa stumbles in.

"They're here! Armed guards just locked down the whole floor!"

I stand up and straighten my coat.

Pull on a mask so only my eyes show.

The door slams open with two bodyguards pushing through.

Xavier Winters walks in behind them.

Still looks perfect. Not a wrinkle. Same arrogant eyes.

He scans my office, then looks at me.

"You're the difficult one?"

He rips off his sunglasses and tosses them back without looking.

Howard rushes forward.

"Mr. Winters! Sir! Dr. Harper's just reviewing the—"

Xavier shoves past him and walks straight to my desk.

SLAM.

Black card hits my keyboard.

"Hundred million."

He stares at me.

"Two hours. Save my kid."

I look at the card and feel my stomach turn.

"Registration's downstairs. Thirty bucks."

Xavier's face goes dark.

"You think I'm asking?"

He leans over my desk.

"I know who you are. Ten years ago? Nothing. Now you got some talent and think you're special."

"You're a mechanic. I'm paying."

"So drop the act before I bury this place."

Chapter 3

"Mechanic?"

I stare past him at the gurney.

Kid's lying there looking half-dead.

Dylan Pierce.

White as a sheet, hooked to oxygen, chest rattling with every breath.

That heart pumping inside him? That was Liam's.

My son's.

"Winters."

My voice goes quiet.

"You ever think about what happens when you steal organs? What comes after?"

Xavier's eyes go cold.

"Watch your mouth. You don't know shit about my family."

"Dylan deserved that heart. He got it. End of story."

"Rejection's just bad luck. You fix it, he walks out. That's your job."

"Deserved it?"

I actually laugh.

Xavier's face goes red.

"You laughing at me? You think this is funny?"

His hand flies at my face.

I catch his wrist. Twist hard.

"AGH"

He screams like I broke something. Maybe I did.

"Get off me"

The goons rush forward.

I shove him straight into them.

"Out."

I grab wipes from my desk. Clean my hands real slow, finger by finger.

"Take your miracle kid and leave."

Xavier's cradling his wrist, whole body shaking.

"You're done. You hear me? Done."

He spins around to Howard.

"This place need funding or not? That equipment money? Gone."

Howard looks ready to collapse.

"Mr. Winters, please, she's just... she's not thinking straight right now"

"I don't care if she's losing her mind."

"She refuses this? I pull every drug we supply. Every single one."

"Those kids in critical? Waiting on meds to stay alive? They're off treatment tomorrow."

"That blood's on your hands, Howard."

"Try me."

The hallway goes dead silent.

No one moves. Nurses look ready to cry.

Lisa's white as a ghost.

Xavier stares me down, jaw locked tight.

"Think you're some kind of hero? Look around you. These people got rent to pay. Kids in college. Car payments."

"You really gonna destroy their lives over your bruised ego?"

"That what you want here?"

He jabs a finger straight at Lisa.

"You. Prep the OR. Right now. Miss one detail and you're blacklisted. Done in medicine. Forever."

Lisa's trembling hard, eyes begging me for help.
